There’s a reason why we love winter, and that’s because with the change of season comes an awesome change in trends! When the chilly months approach we love to get our boots out, but boots are not the only great trend that’s going to be in our closet this season. Why? Because designers have given us so many great trends to choose from: lace-ups, over-the-knee boots, new pumps, cool booties and out-there pointy flats.
We’ve rounded up our 5 favourite shoe trends for this season with inspiration from the AW14 runways.
1. New Pumps
Forget the typical pump, this season designers have introduced us to a stylized and super cool version of pumps. So what’s so great about the new pumps for AW14? Everything! These new pumps have a modern yet feminine take on their older stepsister and look great when paired with jeans, capris, dresses and skirts for a chic and fun look.
Thanks to designers like Bottega-Veneta, Fausto Puglisi, Christian Siriano, Dennis Basso and Altuzarra for all their inspiration.
2. Cool Bootie
Yes, we love booties and designers like Bottega-Veneta, Diane-von-Furstenberg and Reed Krakoff who have decided to offer us a wide variety of styles to choose from this season.
These booties are weather appropriate and will ensure that our feet are kept warm throughout the season, they are also versatile and can be paired with anything from sweater dresses to skinny jeans. Come rain or shine, we will seldom leave home without these cool new booties and the range of different designs and colours means that we can find a pair to suit every occasion. Chevrons, python, blue suede, classic black and cut outs give us plenty to choose from.
3. Over-the-knee boots
Over-the-knee boots are still in fashion and some of our favorete designers like Herve Leger, Dolce Gabbana, Just Cavalli and Versace have created designs that every woman wants to add to her wardrobe.
Of course, some of these designs can be a tad risqué and are certainly not for the faint hearted. If over-the-knee boots are not paired with the right ensemble it’s possible you’ll come off looking cheap.
However, there are plenty of reasons to love this style: if you want an everyday look then the riding boot styles are the way to go. Feeling conservative? Opt for black boots and show less skin by wearing a pair of tights or jeans with your boots.
Take Rihanna and Miranda Kerr as inspiration for wearing these OTKB, because they know just how to wear them (with or without tights) and look great.
4. Lace-up booties
Undeniably one of the biggest trends this season are the lace-up booties. We saw the models strut these sexy shoes down the catwalk and now we have to add them to our wardrobe. While this style is not entirely new (think old classics like Doc Martens) designers have given the lace-up booties a fresh injection of life and there’s now an abundance of different styles for you to choose from.
What’s on offer? Pretty much everything from wedges to stilettos, open-toes to fold-over cuffs, there’s something to suit everyone’s personal style. And if you’re still looking for inspiration on how to wear your lace-up booties, well, they lend themselves well in a variety of different settings but we love them the most when they’re tucked into skinny jeans and paired with a chunky blanket scarf, perfect for the winter months.
5. Pointy Flat
Bejewelled, embellished, floral, steel cap toes and metallics, these are what the pointy flat designs that dominated the runways of N21, Tod, Max Mara, Kristina and (the jewelled flats) Emporio Armani, Giorgio Armani and Marni. And we’re thankful for the amazing creativity that the designers have presented us with for this season
The sophisticated and sleek look of the pointy flat design gained popularity thanks to Audrey Hepburn in the 1950-60s, and over the last decade we have seen the style come in and out of fashion. However, in 2014 the pointy flats are ensuring that they create a lasting impression in our minds and our wardrobes.
