Virgin Australian Melbourne Fashion Festival has officially taken flight thanks to Mimco! One of Australia’s leading names in fashion accessories, put on a Hitchcock-inspired show honoring the late film director and producer Alfred Hitchcock, and his critically acclaimed 1963 film The Birds.
The prestigious accessory brand set an ominous yet awe-inspiring scene by asking the guests to take their seats and cover their eyes with sleeping masks whilst they listened to various clips from Hitchcock’s classic films, after which the crowd removed their masks and were treated to a visual feast, as the show begun.
The incredible new season collection was inspired by the leading ladies of Hitchcock’s classic films, and the show demanded attention from the very start with the opening soundtrack coming from Hitchcock’s 1954 classic Rear Window accompanied by an exquisite visual display, as models walked through a giant birdcage located in the center of the runway.
Mimco has created a new range of intense colours and unique combinations. Accessories range from layered chains and statement necklaces, bright yellow beanies, jewelled boho inspired headpieces and jewel encrusted headphones with a touch of cosmopolitan chic. Not forgetting the brightly coloured oversized bag, which was a strong creative direction throughout the range.
The focus was all about the accessory collection at hand, and the stylists did a superb job at achieving this by styling the models with a firm focus on the upper half of their bodies. A spectacular combination of simple underwear and chunky knits, coats and cardigans.
The runway held a strong theme of nostalgia, but was not without it’s fresh faces either, as Australian model of the moment and the face of Mimco’s new season collection Paris Roberts returned from New York to grace the runway exclusively for the brand.
So what was Mimco hoping to achieve with their new seasons collection? Creative director Cathryn Wills described the show as a sensory overload. “We focused on the notion of escape and what ‘going to the movies’ offers — a little chapter away from the everyday,” she said. “The show will begin in darkness before transporting guests into a visual and musical feast.”
And the Mimco show certainly lived up to it’s expectations!
