New York Fashion Week left us inspired for the forthcoming seasons trends and we have highlighted some of our very favourite statement accessories to get you looking and feeling great during the cooler seasons.
1. Statement Sunglasses
Sunglasses are not only functional as they serve to protect our eyes from the glare, they are also one of our favourite fashion accessories and a great way to show off your individuality and personal style.
Designers have created a wide range of interesting sunglasses shapes for this season and some of favourites include the angular cuts of cateye lenses. We love these super retro shades and how the pointed angles perfectly frame square, heart shaped and oval faces.
Inspired by the runways of designers such as Just Cavalli, Fendi and the super trendy Dsquared2 cateye sunglasses are the must-have piece for this season!
Other styles that have been gaining popularity on and off the runway include the round and oval-shaped mirrored sunglasses. Inspired by the designs of Burberry Prorsum, Carven, Roberto Cavalli fashionistas across the globe have opted to wear these bold, yet fun accessories.
The beauty of these mirrored lenses is that they come in a variety of colours from bold yellows to vibrant blues, there is truly an option for everyone.
Last, but certainly not least, the embellished/patterned sunglass trend. These daring lenses may not be for everyone and some may find them gaudy, but there is something extra fun about these colourful patterns, flower and rhinestone embellishments and after all fashion is really about taking risks and making a statement.
If you still need more convincing, then look to the runways of Prada, Roberto Cavalli, Dolce & Gabbana and Jeremy Scott for some style inspiration.
2. Statement Hats
For the colder days we love a good hat. Not only are they a necessity when it comes to keeping our heads warm, but they are also a perfect addition to any modish outfit. We looked to the fashion experts on the runways and the style gurus on the streets, and were inspired by some of the comfortable, wearable and eye-catching hats.
The beauty of beanies is that not only are they super cute and comfortable but they are also functional and provide us with warmth during the colder months. Beanies come in all colours and opting for a bright coloured boyish beanie can really add a pop of colour to your wardrobe and brighten up the dull winter backdrop.
Inspired by the runways of Rebecca Minkoff, Emporio Armani, BCBG Max Azria and DKNY, we saw fashionable women on the streets sporting beanies in various shapes, colour and materials (from the classic knits to the more fashion-forward faux furs)
Fedoras have been increasing in popularity over the years and guess what, they are here to stay for another season! Since their takeover last season they haven’t gone anywhere and we’ll see them adorning heads around the world again this winter.
The traditional Fedora style includes any felt hats made with a brim that can be “snapped” up or down. The brim is usually six-and-a-half centimeters or slightly wider in length. They also feature pinched crowns in various forms: center dents, side dents, gutter dents, teardrop pinched-fronts and several others.
The wide-brimmed style appears to be one of the most popular and we have been inspired by fashion gurus such as Jessica Alba, Kate Moss and Audrina Patridge who teamed their fedoras with statement scarves and plenty of layers for the perfect look during the colder seasons!
Designers are becoming more creative when it comes to the materials and colours that are being used in this stylish headwear and if black is too minimalistic for your wardrobe, then add a pop of colour with rich red, tweed, or monochromatic print.
Fur/Faux Fur Hat
As always fur can be a controversial subject in fashion, and a controversial material to choose for your hat, depending on the type used, but its hard to beat in terms of quality and warmth. If you are anti-fur there are always some great faux fur options available on the high street instead, with fur ski caps becoming a popular choice of accessories for the colder season.
Trends have been inspired by Ralph Lauren, Chanel, Michael Kors and Thierry Mugler to name a few, and fur has all but died out just yet.
3. Statement Scarves
What better way to add warmth and colour to your wardrobe than with a statement scarf?
Scarves are a great way stand out from the crowd in cold weather, especially once the layers have piled on and there’s no hint of your former figure underneath! Scarves are easy to pair with almost any outfit due to the almost infinite number of sizes, designs, prints and colors.
Popular street styles include the increasingly popular woollen blanket scarves to the lighter scarves that are casually draped around the neck for a chic elegant finish. They can be tied or wrapped around your neck in a more intricate fashion, keeping you warm and looking great.
For more inspiration look to the runways of Alexis Mabille, Miu Miu, Giorgio Armani and Badgley Mischka.
4. Statement Clutches
There are few bags as elegant. yet daring a clutch bag can be. Large clutches have seen increased popularity of late, a move in the opposite direction to the trend seen in previous seasons. In the past the size of clutches shrank from oversized all the way down to miniature. Now, they’ve returned to a more practical size and can fit most necessities the modern woman carries.
Soft clutches are also seeping into the market: New York designers have created both unsupported and moderately supported clutches to ease the transition from their harder cousins. The choice is yours, from the refined and ladylike monochrome checkered clutches, to the bold and colourful prints and chic slogan designs, when it comes to clutches it is truly impossible to not make a style statement.
