White spiral staircases to nowhere dominated a chic runway at last night’s Kookai A/W 16 show in Melbourne. Clean and polished design met simplistic and raw details both on the stage set and in the collection. Set against this stark white backdrop, models wore black outfits with white as the other core colour and highlights of navy, soft khaki and cool red. Designs married with the colour palette to create sleek and modern styles whilst details provided a 90’s distressed juxtaposition. Choker neck pieces, off-the-shoulder designs and slashed hems all worked in a harmonious contrast to tailored black pants, Kookai’s signature form-fitting styles and a tuxedo dress. Hair was left loose in nonchalant waves or tied back in a ponytail while makeup artists created smouldering eyes and highlighted cheekbones.
