From Burberry’s epic new film to Tommy Hilfiger’s poncho backlash, these are the top international fashion news stories of the week.
Victoria’s Secret Reveals Musical Guests
With less than a month to go before the air date, Victoria’s Secret has announced the musical guests for its upcoming annual fashion show. This year, joining the models on stage will be three industry heavyweights from the music world. Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, and The Weeknd will all take to the runway this year to provide entertainment and the perfect soundtrack for the occasion.
As fans may recall, both Bruno Mars and The Weeknd have performed at previous Victoria’s Secret shows. While Bruno sang for the lingerie giant in 2012, The Weeknd made his first appearance last year, performing in addition to Selena Gomez and Ellie Goulding, following Rihanna’s cancellation. Despite being his second Victoria’s Secret show, 2016 will be the first time that TheWeeknd shares the stage with girlfriend Bella Hadid, who is one of this year’s newcomers.
The 2016 show will also be Lady Gaga’s first time performing for Victoria’s Secret. It will be filmed in Paris and air on December 5.

Burberry Releases Epic Christmas Campaign Film
Burberry’s annual holiday campaigns have become a much-loved tradition that sees the fashion brand team up with big names to create incredible films and images. 2016 is no exception. The British label has just released a short film for this year’s campaign, and it’s epic.
Titled The Tale of Thomas Burberry, the film was also created as a celebration of the label’s 160th anniversary. Appearing like a big-budget, blockbuster trailer, the film depicts a somewhat fictionalized story about the brand’s founder and the origins of its famous trench coat. Domhnall Gleeson is the actor appearing as Burberry while Sienna Miller and Lily James play his love interests. Dominic West also appears in the short as Ernest Shackleton, the polar explorer who wore Burberry outerwear on his Antartic expeditions.
Keeping in line with the high-quality cast, the brand also sought out top filmmakers to create the piece. Academy Award nominee Matt Charman wrote the script while Academy Award winner Asif Kapadia filled the role of director.

Tommy Hilfiger Under Fire for Putting Gigi in a Poncho
Tommy Hilfiger has come under fire this week after revealing the reason why Gigi Hadid was dressed in a poncho for the brand’s fall 2015 show. In an interview, the designer revealed that the casting director for the show believed that the model was not thin enough, deciding to cover up her body with the garment.
“Our casting director said, ‘She doesn’t really fit because, you know, she’s not quite as tall as the other girls, she’s not quite as thin,'” said Hilfiger.
Despite being used to cover Gigi’s body, the poncho ended up becoming a top piece from the collection and began a long relationship between the model and the brand.
“Gigi is truly the definition of a Tommy Girl,” said the designer in a later statement clarifying his remarks. “Her magnetic personality is bright, confident and always optimistic. I’ve known her for many years, and am extremely proud to have her as the ambassador of my brand and as a collaborator of our collections. Any statement to the contrary is completely false.”
