Designers Debut Collections at Paris Fashion Week
Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2019 kicked off last week and has been a whirlwind of street style, runways, parties and incredible fashion moments. We have seen runways by some of the biggest names in luxury fashion such as Balmain, Dior, Saint Laurent, and Chloé. While street style kings Off White debut their newest collection, shows from emerging designers such as Mugler received hype from the woman of the moment, Cardi B.
One of the most thrilling shows was Saint Laurent’s Spring 2019 Runway. The French fashion house sent models literally walking on water underneath the sparkling Eiffel Tower. Attendees were also treated to Virgil Abloh’s latest collection for Off-white. The Spring/Summer range is being praised as some of his most innovative and exciting work to date. Street style queens were out in force. We are predicting the emergence of trends including long knitted dresses, yellow checks (think Cher from Clueless), animal prints and plenty of bright colours to come.

Michael Kors Acquires Versace
In an unexpected power move, accessory label Michael Kors has purchased Versace for a cool $2 billion. Concerns have been rising about the future of luxury labels in Italy. Versace is just the latest in a long line of Italian fashion houses to be purchased by a foreign entity. Donatella Versace, however still owns 80% of the family founded fashion house. She will stay on at the helm of the label.
It was reported that Versace was said to be in talks with Kerring before the group allegedly decided the price was too high. The acquisition is the latest strategic plan to acquire a number of high-end fashion labels. Last year the watch and handbag label purchased Jimmy Choo for $1.7 billion and intends to expand the portfolio of Michael Kors Holdings Ltd.

Duckie Thot is the New Face of L’Oreal
Fresh of becoming a Victoria Secret Angel and strutting her stuff in Rihanna’s last Fenty runway, Aussie model Duckie Thot can add another impressive feat to her growing resume. The 22-year-old has just been appointed as the global ambassador for the beauty brand L’Oreal Paris.
Her debut campaigns for L’Oréal Paris will be for Volume Million Lashes, Colorista, Infallible Foundation, and Rouge Signature. She made her first appearance as the global ambassador for the beauty brand during their Paris Fashion Week runway last week. If you’re an Aussie, you may remember Duckie for placing third in the 2012 season of Australia’s Next Top Model. Since then, the Melbourne born Sudanese model has gone on to grace the covers of Harpers Bazaar and walk in shows for Balmain and Moschino.

Sports Stars and WAGS Stun at the 2018 Brownlow Medal
Melbourne’s Crown Casino once again played host to one of the biggest sporting and fashion events in the country. While the two don’t normally go hand in hand, The Brownlow Medal is equally as anticipated by sports and fashion fans all over Australia. And this year’s blue carpet certainly did not disappoint with the WAGS, players, and personalities bringing their fashion A-game.
As per usual, Rebecca Judd was the bell of the Brownlow, stealing the show in a heavily embroidered lilac gown by J’Aton Couture. The number features a fitted bodice and full skirt. Among the best dress was a very pregnant, Nadia Bartel. Basking in that pregnancy glow, Nadia looked angelic in her figure-hugging white gown, also by J’Aton Couture. Cat’s babe, Brit Davis stood out in a sparkly long sleeve number by Paolo Sebastian. The men also looked dapper in classic tuxedos. Congrats to Hawthrone’s Tom Mitchell, who took out the award with 28 votes.
