An air of relaxed jubilance settled in over Flemington yesterday as the third day of the Spring Racing Carnival kicked off. Under clear blue skies and shining sun, racegoers descended upon the revered racecourse for Oaks Day. Traditionally known as “ladies’ day”, the event saw an influx of feminine styles and delicate details as the gorgeous weather brought out some gorgeous fashion.
Lace and florals were naturally key looks for the lovely ladies attending the day, as were feminine colours grounded by refreshing white hues. Pretty, pastel pinks were an easy favourite while pops of lemon yellow and cool blues injected a sense of fun into the palette. Despite being opposite, off-the-shoulder and high-neck, sleeved dresses were two of the most popular styles of the day. Silhouettes were kept slim, simple and relaxed while headwear was dominated by decorative crowns, brimmed hats and floral headpieces.
It may have been ladies’ day but the men looked equally good in the sartorial stakes yesterday. The gents had fun mixing and matching a variety of light colours often opting for trousers, blazers and shirts in different tones. Staying true to the theme, they added in fitting pops of pink and even a few florals. Single-breasted blazers done up with just one button perfectly represented the relaxed mood of the day while simple ties and pocket squares in happy hues conveyed the joy.
