The race day, most well known for its black and white dress code, was hit with Derby Day’s attendees reworking the monochrome color palette. Ladies kept things demure and ladylike with dainty fascinators and traditionalist hats. Crotchet was favored for some dresses, and headpieces were upgraded with modern materials and textures. Gents sustained a collectively traditional aesthetic with their classically shaped suits that were expected but still importantly mandated. Accessories were a playful way for gents to lend distinction to their clothing and took the form of interesting pocket squares and patterned socks. Stripes, plaids, and spots also kept things more diverse. Slim black ties were also favored amongst gents, demonstrating that this simple clothing item is truly one of the most iconic pieces all men should own.
All in all, the clothing and accessories at Derby Day did not disappoint. Keep an eye out for not only the great headpieces of the women but also the masculine hats of male attendees that were a gentlemanly nod to another era. Hilary Swank also makes a cameo, and the American’s demure look fits right in with our Australian contingent.
