Have you ever imagined what the world would be like if we could print 3D objects of any kind? Well the wait is over, because Officeworks 3D Experience Centre has now opened in its Russell Street store. You can now bring in your own 3D file or object and have it printed in your choice of material – or better yet, create a 3D Scan and Print of yourself.
We were lucky enough to be one of the first to experience the immortalisation that takes place within a 3D photo booth. The process surprisingly took only 30 seconds. The room where the scanning takes place looked like the coolest space shuttle from one of the blockbuster sci-fi movies, or at least this is how I saw it. It was a white cylindrical room with cameras mounted into the walls. I had to resist the temptation of twisting and turning while I was advised to stand still and stare in one spot for 30 seconds.
When the scanning was done, we previewed the images of myself in every angle. I confirmed that I was happy with the scan and left the centre. Two weeks later my “Mini Me” arrived by post. We met face to face for the first time and the resemblance was unbelievable. The scanner and printer picked up on every detail of my clothing and face; the powder finish precision is truly fascinating.
I am so excited that we can now start decorating our homes and even outfits with self-designed pieces we’ve created with 3D printing technology. If you are like me and keen to experience everything first, you might as well get started on it now. Officeworks 3D Experience Centre, located on Russell Street in Melbourne’s CBD provides customers with a number of 3D printers that are available for at-home and/or commercial use. In addition to this, Officeworks provides 3D services including the opportunity to have your favourite item scanned and printed in 3D or bring in your own 3D design file to be printed in your choice of material, colour and size.
