An exploration of nature’s clashing forces has defined the latest collection by design powerhouse Alexandra and Genevieve Smart to create a range of earth-shattering proportions entitled Latitude. Fragile landscapes and the enduring ebb and flow of natural wonder, abundant and raw in form, are captured and beautifully interpreted in this Mark Vassallo directed show.
Organic treatments like sand dune embroidery are paired back with silk satins that move like dancing Ghost Gums and rain-smudged floral prints are cut with lace to echo the environment’s contrasting elements. Metallic sheen can be found in unexpected places such as a coating on lace or burnished onto cotton knits. Solid shades of blush, aquamarine, carbon and amethyst are worked in with scaled floral prints and then tastefully disrupted by a punchy Wattle yellow. Ginger & Smart’s signature laces are re-imagined to reveal a spectacular play on nature with textures that mimic the strata of rock formations or patterned flora. Silhouette is clean and slightly undone to throw focus onto surface detail and trims such as feathers or rose gold beading.
The Ginger & Smart range is punctuated with their own line of accessories that shares the cult following in equal parts. Open toe boots and their trademark bags complete the look that can only be described as a genius combination of qualities where attention to detail and unyielding passion have blossomed into brand without parallel.
