Let’s face it, The term ‘Ready to Wear’ in the fashion world does not always translate that way to the real world, so we have hand picked three looks fresh off the Fall 2015 runways that can totally be achieved alone, with wearable waves, to punchy pouts and galactic gazes that will send your heart aflutter.
1. American Beauty by Michael Kors
The all American designer captured the all American beauty in one walk, with effortlessly tousled tresses and fresh faces; it was all peaches and cream down the runway.
This undone makeup was laced with stained cheeks, lips and dewy skin, the perfect weekend makeup that radiates youth.
“Restraint” was the key word used when Dick Page explained the key to achieving this natural glow. That meant only using a sheer veil of foundation when needed. This can be quite hard for most, as we are taught to cover up and use our foundation as the base for flawless skin however, perfection is overrated and this is minimum effort for maximum affect.
The eyes were amplified with the use of smudged brown liner, enhancing the eye without the drama of sharp defined eyeliner. Another great daytime affect.
A peachy cream blush was used on the apples of the cheeks to keep the skin dewy, while adding some punch. ‘Page’ explained that he conditioned models’ lips during the hair and makeup process by dabbling on heavy amounts of balm to the lips, then pressing in Kors’s Lip Lacquer in Diva & Dame with his fingers to create a stained look. There is no definition on the lips, creating all round effortless, natural looking makeup.
Models were told to go to bed the night before with wet hair, to achieve texture in the hair and this was followed by blasting Volumizing Dry Shampoo and finished off with a low, loose pony tail.
2. Rebellious Streak by 3.1 Philip Lim
More of a rebellious streak was showcased at the 3.1 Philip Lim show.
Models donned blood red lips and dark nails, Francelle Daly the show’s makeup artist used the color of her favorite Dr. Martens boots as inspiration for the statement lip, which completed this punk/rock look.
The Nars Fall VIP Red Lipstick was used to achieve this look; skin was kept clean and fresh, which is even more rebellious as the royal finger was given to perfected skin. Instead a dark olive hue ‘Galaxy from Sephora Formula X’ was applied to the nails. Manicurist Elissa Ferri explains “It’s more three dimensional than black and it has so much personality.”
Hair was sectioned into braids, flat-ironed, undone and shine was added, the perfect “I don’t give a damn hair” this is.
3. Scandinavian by Thakoon
Aurora Borealis is a natural light display in the Northern Regions and was the inspiration behind the show and it’s makeup, hence the warm orange and iridescent tones were used on the models in the Thankoon fall 2015 show.
The makeup artist for the show Diane Kendal explains. “In light of the inspiration behind Thankoon collection, we’re doing a really soft, luminous face.” After perfecting the skin with NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturiser and Soft Velvet Loose Powder, a shimmering nude blush was applied to the cheekbones and temples. Dual-Intensity Blush palettes in Craving and Fervor were applied to the lids and spread across to create soft drama, with a creamsicle hue to the eyes.
Thakoon shied away from undone, messy hair that was seen in most shows and opted for a more structured hairstyle. Models wore smooth, straightened, blow waved tresses that sported severe side parts – a modern hairstyle with a galactic twist.
This look would be perfect day to night and can be adjusted to suit your level of comfort in the makeup department.
