Inspired by the mass of scattered geography that covered the Earth in the days of its formation, Mary Katrantzou’s range is an exploration of creative forces and unpredictable lines.
The feeling is evocative of movement that inspires a narrative, expressed through a combination of naturalistic forms and abstract shapes breaking on the body.
The palette of the collection shifts through earth tones of nude, sandstone and mossy olive, to pastel shades of coral, sky blue and sea green. Features are framed by heightened hues of dusty orange and ochre. Fabrics are soft, tailoring fluid in light summer wools and tulle with seed bead panels that envelope body and add wave like textures. The use of transparency provides lightness to the detailed artwork that hangs suspend from complex shapes that have a refreshing lack of geometry. Laces in metallic finishing are juxtaposed with mid-weight satins and micro plisse to reflect where rolling seascapes meet the earth.
In Katrantzou’s words, her style has gone through a recent metamorphosis to take on a sense of maturity that will propel it forward to higher accolades of acclaim and leave little doubt to the ever-changing landscape of designer’s creative bounds.
