There’s been a nasty rumor circulating around the fashion world for quite some time now. Someone, somewhere, decided that all flat shoes including ballet flats, sandals, slip-ons, loafers and trainers are boring. Well, we’re here to say that these rumors are vicious, hurtful and couldn’t be further from the truth.
Wearing flats doesn’t mean your outfit has to fall flat. It certainly doesn’t make you boring either. In fact, there is at least 5 ways to wear flat shoes and still look like your fabulous self.
It’s not hard to look pretty when you’re wearing a pair of flats. If this is the look you’re after then ballet flats or sandals are your weapons of choice. These flats go hand in hand with lace ensembles. Alternatively, pair your ballet flats or sandals with an easy, breezy summer dress and you’ll look as pretty as a picture.
2. Street Grunge
While pretty and street grunge may be at opposite ends of the fashion spectrum, flats can cater to both. If you’re more of a grunge gal than a pretty gal, pop on a pair of trainers or canvas slip-ons. Torn jeans, t-shirts, caps and leather jackets are all fantastic additions to street inspired outfits. Fortunately for you, trainers and slip-ons will be kind to your feet as you traipse all over town.
The French have this look down pat. They’ve pretty much mastered the art of looking effortlessly tailored and chic while wearing a pair of ballet flats. How do they do it? French women pair their flats with tailored shirts, trousers and blazers. Fortunately for us, you don’t actually have to be French to pull this look off. Although, riding a bike and throwing a baguette over your shoulder wouldn’t necessarily be a bad idea.
If you’re planning on leaving the house this Sunday morning, please put on a pair of flats and head to your nearest café for brunch. You’ve had a hard week and you deserve it. You’ll look particularly nice if you pair your flats with some slouchy trousers or a loose button up. You’re welcome.
