As TheTrendSpotter team gears up for yet another exciting week of fashion at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia, we take a look back at some of the highlights of Melbourne street style.
We love seeing the well styled designers’ creations on the runways, but we are equally as excited to see how you, the style guru’s of the street, love to wear it. And if you need some tips on how to stand out from the crowd and make a statement, then look no further than these trendy people who caught our eye during Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival.
1. Make it Pop with Pop Color Jackets
We have said it before, and we will say it again, adding a pop of colour to your outfit really makes you stand out from the crowd. You can add a pop of colour with stylish scarves, handbags and shoes, but the most on-trend way to be making your wardrobe pop right now, is with a colour jacket.
Wearing colours can still be a little daunting for some people, who fear that they will look as though they have just taken a ride on time machine back to the psychedelic 60’s, but there are ways to add it to your wardrobe (like these fashionable men have) that will make you look sophisticated and stylish, not to mention that this is a steadfast way of ensuring you’re popping up on the fashion radar.
A little tip, apart from adopting the colours that are on trend right now, try to also wear those that compliment your skin, hair and eye colour.
2. Accessorise with Wide Brimmed Hats
We cannot get enough of statement accessories and wide brimmed hats are certainly one of them. New York Fashion Week first left us inspired for the forthcoming seasons trends and they are now on our streets in a big way.
For the cooler seasons, hats serve as both a functional and modish addition to any outfit.
Fedoras have been increasing in popularity over the years and they are here to stay for another season! The traditional Fedora style includes any felt hats made with a brim that can be “snapped” up or down. The brim is usually six-and-a-half centimeters or slightly wider in length and the wide brimmed appears to be one of the most popular choices for street style and fashion gurus (for the women you can get inspired by Kate Moss, Audrina Patridge and Jessica Alba’s wardrobes)
3. Experiment with Striking Prints
Sometimes fashion needs to be fun and experimenting with prints helps us to achieve that. Some of our favorite prints include oriental inspired prints combined with an element of androgyny, such as a flowing floral pantsuit. Floral blossom skirts paired with neutral hues, clashing patterns worn head-to-toe and we also love the more elegant route of pairing a striking print with a neutral colour for a less daunting look.
4. Do Classic Monochrome or White on White Styling
It’s hard to go wrong with the classical elegance of a black and white dress code, or white on white styling.
The black and white combination is timeless, versatile and flattering and we can draw inspiration for how to wear these looks from our favorite runway designers including Christian Dior, Marc by Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton, all of whom have inspired women to adopt the trans-seasonal trend.
White on white styling is another great option, because it produces a beautifully feminine look. Not only is white a cool colour to ensure that you are not left feely sweaty after a day of fashion events, but it also looks classy and chic, making a statement with the crisp colour.
And if you feel that the all-white or monochromatic colour scheme is not adventurous enough for you, then remember that these looks lend themselves well to a pop of colour, just be sure to do this in a subtle and sophisticated way.
5. Shine Bright with Metallic Jackets
We love a little futuristic shimmer in our wardrobes! When it comes to choosing metallics there is truly something for everyone from the matte metallics or wet-look metallics, these designs come in all shapes and hues.
And it’s not all about the metallic silver and golds anymore, designers have become even more creative with their use of shimmer and we have seen the fabric increasing in popularity, to produce everything from colourful metallic suits and coats to embellished sheer skirts with metallic fabric.
Just remember not to go overboard with shimmer, one item of clothing is enough to do the trick.
Whilst these tips are sure to make you stand out from the crowd, the most important thing to remember is that when it comes to fashion, it’s really your confidence that stands out. So why not embrace the styles that you truly love? You know better than anyone what compliments your body and makes you comfortable, so the easiest way to ensure that you look great is really by experimenting with your favourite trends.
