The final show of MSFW, the night was met with anticipation and excitement. And despite the chill of the cool change outside, inside the Town Hall it was all heating up as designers showcased their vibrant, bold prints and popping neon and candy colours, as they showed off their resort and swimwear for summer.
Franks men’s swimwear wowed the crowd with their colourful patterns and mixture of 80s and 90s inspirational prints. Similar to the 90s style Mambo shorts, they were bright, fun and with a lot of contrasting patterns. It was your classic drawstring above the knee short that are going to be big for spring.
Taking it to another level was Seafolly, one of Australia’s favourite swimwear brands. Never failing to disappoint, and this was no exception. First design out was a monochrome bikini with a zigzag black and white pattern, with a neon pink clutch and shoes to complete the look perfectly. Seafolly was a mixture of structured one pieces and bikinis as it progressed into beach clothing, jackets and dresses all with different alterations, using techniques of screen printing, floral prints, 80s neons and clashing prints and a thick exposed zip. Metallic swimwear and black were introduced as the look transitioned from night to day.
From Runway 4 we saw Limedrop inspire the audience and last night at resort was nothing short of striking. It was a mixture of swimwear and spring/summer dresses with candy colours and beautiful, light summery prints that made their designs come to life. One of our favourites was the clear plastic skater dress with white floral detail over the top of their swimwear designs. Including their new addition Perspex glasses that are going to be a huge hit amongst the fashion world.
Brains of swimwear and screen-printing brand We Are Handsome started with a bang as their one-pieces rocked the runway with tremendous style and colour. The brand brought a mixture of prints, from animalistic to a variety of settings and colours all exuding the warm seasons. The designs included bodycon dresses, one-piece swimsuits and a sheer beach dress, most designs with backless detail, similar to the 80s Baywatch swimsuits with a high leg and low back. We Are Handsome also presented their new sunglasses collaboration with Isson eyewear, amazing.
Charlie Brown drew inspiration from the late 60s with bold, clashing prints, flowing silk and soft fabrics and the range of cuts and tailoring. Opting for darker florals with a mixture of leopard print and a number of jumpsuits and long dresses. We are loving the boldness and edge of their designs, a huge hit with the audience.
Last but not least, Wayne Cooper, it was lace dresses, neons and crazy prints, again going for a similar 60s theme, crop tops with tailored pants. With a variation of designs from a simple teal and white crop top and skirt, similar to student runway 2, to the designs also showed a mixture of metallic and neon prints both in a loose-fitting dress and a tailored pants and crop top which is such a unique pattern and mixture of fabrics. But it was the incredible finale dress by Wayne Cooper was an absolutely stunning, a teal long silk formal dress. As the model walked down the runway the dress flowed beautifully displaying a beautiful silhouette from the use of slits and cinched waist. It made for an incredible effect as the final piece and a beautiful ending to MSFW.
