To be constantly inspired I look to the amazing people that surround me whilst enjoying life’s little luxuries. My journey into the world of MOR cosmetics began with the discovery an opulent garden of beautiful colours and scents that make up this luxurious product offering. The Marshmallow range is my favourite of them all. The Fragrant Tea Cup Candle adds peace and serenity to our home while the creams leave the skin feeling soft and smooth. All products in this range smell like heavenly flowers mixed with sweets and spices.
It is to no surprise that Deon calls me “Miss Marshmallow”; I just can’t get enough of it! It was a great pleasure to be introduced to Deon St Mor-the founder of MOR cosmetics a couple of years ago. His charisma and vision have fascinated me to do an interview with him for The Trend Spotter. We thank Deon who has has just returned back from UAE and Turkey and has found some time in his busy schedule to tell us about himself and the great Australian cosmetics brand that makes us scream for MOR!
What inspired the birth of MOR Cosmetics?
The inspiration of MOR came about by various means. Dianna (Co-Founder) and I continually explored and pushed the boundaries in the design world. We both have a mutual passion and sense for travel, fashion, food, the arts, exploration and discovery, which lead us to the collaborative creation of homewares including soft furnishings and experimental categories such as perfumery and aromatherapy. From there we found great satisfaction within the cosmetic arena, as it gave us a broad brush stroke to design and be creative when producing beautiful packaging and products.
MOR is famous for the beautiful packaging, what is the inspiration behind it?
MOR is a fashion forward cosmetic brand and therefore we are continually creating beautiful new products. This is obviously reflected in our packaging design. Inspiration is continually refreshed just as the fashion industry launches new colour ways per season. Ultimately, inspiration comes from many sources including travel, lifestyle, history and culinary delights and we continually strive to create opulent and unique packaging.
How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style is quite electric. This takes form in various mediums which includes my lifestyle, my home interior and fashion/dress style. I do not have a particular style or look, as I continually like to explore and experiment with various pieces which I find during my travels around the world.
If you weren’t the co-founder of MOR cosmetics, what would you be?
Jaspa, My Jack Russel. He is energetic and is always happy go lucky, like he has a smile on his face all the time. And nothing makes him happier than a simple throw of the ball, so I think simplicity in life is the moral to this story.
What is your life philosophy?
I like to keep my life philosophy simple. These mantras include; having a healthy outlook on life, a smile on my face and having a balanced personality that transcends all walks of life.
You must use a lot of your products in your own home, do you have a different scent for every room?
Yes, I have many MOR products scattered around my home. The bathroom for example, has a mixture of candles, hand & body washes, lotions and fragrances. I particularly enjoy the scents of Feijoa Lime and Cucumber & Casaba for their fresh crisp notes. The lounge room has many candles and I have been testing out the new home fragrances called Jardinière, which are set to launch later this year.
What is your favourite smell?
My favourite fragrance in the MOR range is Feijoa Lime from our Emporium Collection. My favourite smell is a freshly simmered Napoli pasta sauce.
What are the perks of your job?
The perks of my job is travelling internationally and part of that travel allows me to learn and become more knowledgeable about history and the many cultures that exist around the world. I also get to attend many functions and events in many industries to represent the MOR brand.
Tell us MOR about your newest range of product and what makes it so special.
We are launching Jardinière, which is a beautiful home fragrance collection that is set to launch in November. This is special because it’s the first home fragrance range for MOR and has a beautiful unique story behind it as do all the MOR collections. This new range follows a journey through stone wall gardens dripping with blossoms, atrium courtyards of abundant foliage and moss-laden conservatories filled with budding blooms. It references breathing in the fragrance of bygone times and relaxing in your own secret, ornamental garden.
MOR is conquering the world! What is the long-term vision for your brand?
There is a continual excitement of launching the MOR brand into new Countries. Within the next 6 months we will be launching MOR in the UAE and Turkey. Part of the long term vision for MOR is to become a globally recognised and competitive cosmetic brand renowned for its opulent packaging and uniquely fragranced formulations that are innovative, enriched and indulgent. This comes about with the launch of significant ranges such as skincare and other categories that will be aligned with the MOR brand.
